OCR: Sun Yat-sen: Father of Bourgeois Democratic Revolution In 1894, Sun Yat-sen went to Honolulu and founded among Chinese there Xing Zhong Hui (Revive China Society), a forerunner of the secret revolutionary groups that he later headed. In 1905 Dr. Sun unified a number of revolutionary organizations into one revolutionary party known as Tong Meng Hui ( Revolutionary League ). The revolutionary groups under his leadership had attempted eight armed uprisings, which provided a base for future struggles. On Oct. 10, 1911, Wuchang, a key industrial city on the middle Yangtze, rose in revolt. The decayed feudal Qing Dynasty was overthrown. In Dec. 1911, Sun Yat-sen was elected provisional president of China. He is remembered as the great pioneer of China's democratic revolution. Under his leadership, Chinese People overthrew the autocratic monarchy and established a republican state. A new page was opened in Chinese history.
